Camp Happy Days (CHD) is seeking volunteers ages 19 and older to help create a life-changing experience for children battling cancer and their siblings. The 2026 weeklong overnight camp will take place June 27 to July 4 at Camp Bob Cooper, bringing together 200 campers for a week of fun, friendship and therapeutic activities.
Each year, 150 to 180 volunteers are needed to make camp possible. Volunteers can serve as cabin counselors, working directly with campers, or assist with program areas such as arts and crafts, water sports, woodworking, glass bead making and more. Applications are open until Monday, June 1. All volunteers must pass a SLED background check and complete child protection training, which is covered by CHD.
“For the past 25 years, Camp Happy Days has been more than an organization to me - it has been my family,” said Morgan Krohn Guerrero, a former camper and current volunteer. “As a camper, it gave me a space where I could truly be myself, surrounded by other children who understood the challenges of living with cancer. The counselors who once guided me became my greatest champions, showing me the power of compassion, resilience and joy.
“As I grew older, I knew I wanted to carry that same light forward and give back to the place that has given me so much. This past summer, 2025, marked my 12th year volunteering, and each year reaffirms why this community is so special. Being able to create unforgettable moments and give these kids the kind of joy and belonging I once experienced is something I will always cherish. It is a privilege to offer support, comfort and encouragement to some of the most courageous children I have ever known — and they, in turn, continue to inspire me every single day.”
