This December, Home Again of the Lowcountry and Spokeworks Bicycle Workshop have partnered to provide much-needed transportation and safety equipment to guests of Keys to Change so they can obtain and maintain employment. The Giving Tree Campaign launches at Spokeworks Bicycle Workshop to transform lives through the power of mobility. The campaign’s Kick-Off Celebration will take place on Friday, December 6th, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Spokeworks Bicycle Workshop, located at 605 N. Main St., Ste. B in Summerville. Attendees will enjoy live music, food trucks, drinks, and the opportunity to connect with fellow community members.
Running from December 5, 2024, to January 16, 2025, the Giving Tree Campaign invites visitors to Spokeworks to select ornaments representing essential bike safety and maintenance items. Donations will provide items such as bike lights, locks, helmets, and repair kits for guests of Keys to Change, a non-profit dedicated to providing a safe environment, support services, and an avenue to independence for those in a housing crisis.
A Bike That Changed a Life
In June, Home Again Founder John Michael Stagliano, a student at the College of Charleston, started the Eight Bike Challenge to provide much-needed safe transportation to Keys to Change guests. He saw firsthand how a bike can transform lives. A 69-year-old man living without shelter near the South Street Bank by Walmart in Summerville found safety and support at Keys to Change. Through the ‘Eight Bike Challenge,’ he received a bike that became his ticket to independence. With his new bike, he secured a job, saved money, and, in just five months, moved into his own furnished room—achieving independence and a bright future.
