Young Moms Together, formerly Florence Crittenton Programs of South Carolina, will host its fourth annual Legacy of Hope Brunch on Thursday, April 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Harbour Club at WestEdge in Charleston.
Presented by First Horizon Bank, this year’s brunch focuses on a goal of unlocking federal housing resources to prevent and end youth homelessness in the Charleston region. The event will feature a panel discussion with current and former Young Moms Together participants.
The organization is working to secure matching funds required to activate federal funding designated for young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Teen pregnancy often accelerates housing instability, as young parents are more likely to be disconnected from family support, education and income, placing them at higher risk of homelessness.
“Housing is not a short-term intervention for young parents experiencing homelessness — it is the starting point for breaking cycles of poverty and abuse, improving child outcomes and building stronger communities,” said Cheryl O’Donnell, executive director of Young Moms Together. “By leveraging federal investment with local match dollars, we multiply the impact of every dollar, providing young parents with the stability they need to pursue education, secure employment and raise their children in safe, nurturing environments.”
Young Moms Together must raise $58,000 by May 31, 2026, to unlock more than $230,000 in federal housing support, providing a full year of stable housing and wraparound services for at least 12 young families.
The initiative represents a housing-first, long-term solution, pairing stable housing with individualized support from a success coach to help young parents build income, continue their education, strengthen parenting skills and move toward lasting independence.
