The City of Charleston has canceled the West Ashley Farmers Market scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, from 3 to 7 p.m. at 55 Sycamore Ave.
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for the Charleston area, with heat index values forecast to reach 112 to 116 degrees. The most dangerous conditions are expected during the market's setup and operating hours, creating unsafe conditions for vendors, staff and visitors.
The market is expected to resume its regular Wednesday schedule on July 15, weather permitting.
Residents are encouraged to limit time outdoors, stay hydrated and check on neighbors, especially older adults and those without air conditioning, during the extreme heat.
