Two Charleston area breweries last Thursday won gold medals at the 2025 World Beer Cup in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Holy City Brewing in North Charleston was recognized in the South German-Style Hefeweizen category for its Washout Wheat, a 5.5% alcohol hefeweizen that features notes of banana and clove.
Meanwhile, Mount Pleasant's Indigo Reef Brewing Co. topped the Wood- and Barrel-Aged Strong Stout category for its Depth Dweller, a bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout featuring flavors of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and caramel, along with notes of bourbon, oak, and vanilla from the barrel aging process.
Known as “the Olympics of beer,” the World Beer Cup is the most prestigious beer competition in the world, held annually in conjunction with the Craft Brewers Conference and BrewExpo America.
