The nation's first Black-owned knife shop, Middleton Made Knives, and South Carolina's first Black-owned Prosecco brand, Don Luchi, are coming together to host a one night culinary collaboration at Navy Yard Charleston. SUSHEE is an exclusive evening where two rich culinary traditions – the Japanese art of sushi and the Gullah Geechee seafood culture – come together in a first of its kind celebration of craftsmanship, culture, and community.
SUSHEE will be held in the picturesque courtyard of Navy Yard Charleston and is sure to be an unforgettable night that honors heritage while embracing innovation.
The event will feature a sophisticated culinary fusion, incorporating traditional Gullah Geechee ingredients into Japanese sushi preparations. Quintin Middleton, master bladesmith and owner of Middleton Made Knives, will showcase his world-class knife-making skills as part of the experience.
"The craftsmanship that goes into creating a perfect knife edge mirrors the precision required for exceptional sushi," said Middleton. "This collaboration allows us to showcase the intersection of culinary art, cultural heritage, and meticulous craftsmanship." SUSHEE will feature creative sushi preparations by Chef Aeron Saqui of Saqui Sushi, infusing traditional Japanese techniques with Gullah Geechee ingredients and flavors.
