The Green Heart Project today announced its 15th Annual Harvest Dinner. The organization says the event marks the conclusion of "another fruitful year of Farm to School education for students throughout the Charleston area, and celebrates the bounty of the season for the entire community."
Hosted in partnership with Mitchell Elementary School, the Harvest Dinner features farm-fresh cuisine, live entertainment, and plenty of family-friendly activities. The event will take place on Thursday, May 22 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mitchell Elementary Urban Farm, located at 2 Perry Street in downtown Charleston.
The Harvest Dinner invites attendees to gather and enjoy aBBQ dinner while exploring Mitchell Elementary’s urban farm space and learn about Green Heart’s garden-based education programs.
Headlining this year's menu will be BBQ chicken and pork by Chef Marvin Ross of Peculiar Pig Eats. Guests can also enjoy seasonal, garden-fresh sides curated in partnership with Charleston County School District Nutrition Services and local culinary talent, including Chef Gabrielle Smith, one of this year’s Taste of Black Charleston winners.
Guests will also be treated to live music by Ek & the Crew. For families, there will be plenty of activities to enjoy, including face painting, a bounce house, arts and crafts, and bubbles.
"This event is a great way for the local community to support Farm to School education in Charleston," said Jesse Blom, Executive Director of The Green Heart Project. “We hope you can join us for some great food and fun."
