Riva Mare, the previously announced coastal Italian restaurant from the Indigo Road Hospitality Group, is slated to open in North Charleston in late summer 2026.
Located in the city’s emerging Design District within the greater Navy Yard development, a mixed-use neighborhood along the Cooper River, Riva Mare will offer rooftop views, open-air dining and a seafood-forward menu inspired by Italy’s Amalfi and Ligurian coasts.
Highlighting the lighter, coastal cuisine of Italy, Riva Mare will showcase bright olive oil-based dishes and an emphasis on locally sourced seafood and seasonal vegetables, a departure from the rich red-sauce traditions associated with other regions. The beverage program will complement the menu with a selection of limoncellos and spritzes, a thoughtfully developed wine list, and specialty cocktails designed to pair well with the restaurant’s variety of lively gathering spaces— from relaxed rooftop aperitivos, intimate dinners, or energetic group celebrations.
“Like many Charlestonians, we’ve spent years looking at Navy Yard and imagining its potential. It’s incredible to see Jamestown, Weaver Capital Partners, and WECCO Development bringing that vision to life. It took the right team with the right vision and determination, and we’re honored to be a part of its future,” says Steve Palmer, Founder and Chief Vision Officer of Indigo Road Hospitality Group. “I’ve always been inspired by extensive travels along the coast of Italy and wanted to create a restaurant that captures the joy, spontaneity, and playful spirit you find there — long, leisurely lunches, vibrant seafood-driven meals, and spaces that invite people to linger. We hope this is a space where people can gather, connect, and enjoy themselves just as you would in this region of Italy.”
Designed by David Thompson, the restaurant’s interior and exterior draw inspiration from both the Italian port city of Genoa and Charleston’s rich maritime heritage. Warm wood finishes create an inviting atmosphere, while an open kitchen and raw bar encourages a sense of communal dining. Bright red-and-white striped accents, paired with vintage-inspired illustrations and photography add layers of nostalgia and playfulness, creating a dining experience that feels both vibrant and welcoming.
Riva Mare will be located at 2154 Noisette Blvd, Suite 500, North Charleston. For updates and more information, visit https://www.rivamarechs.
