Angel’s & Emily, a new day-to-night dining destination, is coming to Avondale and taking over the former Ruby Sunshine space (835 Savannah Hwy.). The concept will bring two distinct restaurant experiences under one roof: Angel Biscuit Co., a breakfast-forward concept built around house-made biscuits and craveable breakfast fare, will welcome guests during the day before transforming into Emily after dark, serving burgers, pizza and a lively nighttime atmosphere.
A sister restaurant to Pizza Loves Emily, Emily is an award-winning concept making its way south for the first time. Since debuting in New York, Emily has earned national acclaim from outlets including Eater, Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal and has built a devoted following for its pizza and signature burger.
The concept grew from a longtime friendship between restaurateur and owner Howard Greenstone and a friend and collaborator who calls Avondale home. At her recommendation, Greenstone chose the neighborhood for Angel’s & Emily, knowing it was exactly the kind of place where the concept belonged.
“Avondale has a real neighborhood feel, which is hard to find these days,” Greenstone said. “People know each other and care about each other, and the whole area just has a great vibe. I’m thrilled to be in Charleston, of course, but West Ashley specifically.”
Open Wednesday through Sunday, Angel’s & Emily is designed to change with the rhythm of the day. Weekdays begin at 7 a.m. with Angel Biscuit Co., offering everything from a quick coffee and morning treat after school drop-off to grab-and-go muffins for the kids.
As the day progresses, the space will naturally shift into a casual neighborhood gathering place before Emily takes over in the evening, turning up the music, dimming the lights and welcoming guests for dinner, drinks and late-night bites.
Weekend brunch will be the one time when both sides of the concept come together. Guests can order from both the Angel Biscuit Co. and Emily menus at the same table, making brunch a choose-your-own-adventure experience.
The bar program will feature a curated selection of classics alongside a lineup of easy-drinking cocktails developed by acclaimed local mixologist Megan Deschaine.
More information about the grand opening and full menus will be announced later.
