A local favorite is turning one of today's biggest beverage trends into a meaningful way to help homeless animals.
On Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., OPIE Drive-Thru Grocery in Mount Pleasant will host Dirty Good Deed, a community fundraiser benefiting Pet Helpers. During the four-hour event, 100% of proceeds from participating dirty soda sales will be donated to Pet Helpers, helping provide lifesaving care, shelter, medical treatment and second chances for thousands of animals each year.
Two of OPIE's signature dirty sodas, the Ranger Roo and the Ollie Ollie Apple, are named after the founders' Australian shepherds, making the partnership with Pet Helpers a natural fit.
"We are constantly amazed by the creativity, generosity and support of our community," said Melissa Susko, executive director of Pet Helpers. "Our animals mean the world to us, and we are so grateful for partners like OPIE who find fun and inventive ways to bring people together while helping us continue providing the care, resources and second chances these pets deserve. Every purchase and every act of kindness helps create brighter futures for the animals counting on us."
Community members are invited to drive through OPIE, order their favorite dirty soda and know their purchase is making a direct impact on local shelter pets. Dogs are encouraged to join the fun, with complimentary pup cups and free bandanas available while supplies last.
Supporters are also encouraged to snap a photo of their Dirty Good Deed, share it on social media and tag Pet Helpers to help spread the word and inspire others to participate.
The fundraiser comes during the Clear the Shelters campaign, a nationwide initiative encouraging communities to support local animal shelters through adoption, fostering, volunteering, donations and other acts of kindness. While not everyone is in a position to adopt, Dirty Good Deed offers a simple and fun way to make a difference in the lives of homeless pets.
