James Beard Award finalist Chef Nikko Cagalanan announced the return of his guest chef dinner series, Sama-Sama, beginning this month at Kultura’s new location, 267 Rutledge Ave.
The monthly series, running through July, invites chefs from across the country to collaborate with Cagalanan for a one-night-only, five-course menu that celebrates shared culinary traditions.
Sama-Sama, which means “together” in Tagalog, is the heart of the series. Since opening, Cagalanan and his wife and business partner, Paula Kramer, have welcomed guest chefs into their kitchen to create dinners that blend diverse culinary traditions with Kultura’s Filipino cuisine. Guests can expect dishes inspired by flavors from Laos and Japan to Mexico and beyond, with each chef bringing a unique style to the table.
Kultura’s Sama-Sama Series includes the following dinner dates and featured chefs:
- April 29: Top Chef semifinalist and founder of The Supper Club from Nowhere Chef Lana Lagomarsini of Lana Cooks from New York City
- May 20: James Beard Award–finalist Chef Jeff Chanchaleune of Ma Der Lao from Oklahoma City
- June 24: James Beard Award–nominated Chef Gustavo Romero of Oro by Nixta from Minneapolis
- July 15: James Beard Award-winner Chef Masako Morishita of Perry’s in D.C.
Each dinner features a five-course collaborative tasting menu priced at $125 per guest, with beverages available à la carte. Reservations are now open on Resy for both dining room and bar seating, with seatings available from 5 - 9:30 p.m.
