Park Circle dining destination, Katsubo, will donate $1 from every frozen lemonade sold during the month of April to the Michael W. Leibowitz Family Fund, supporting student pilot scholarships at Charleston Southern University in memory of Leibowitz (pictured) - beloved father, mentor, and one of Charleston’s most dedicated philanthropists.
The Charleston community suffered a tragic loss in 2024 when Leibowitz died in a plane crash. Aviation was not just a passion for Leibowitz - it was a calling that spanned more than 50 years in the air. He was deeply involved in pilot education and used his love of flying to serve others, including medical and animal transport missions. In one of his most meaningful acts of service, he volunteered to fly cancer patients to their treatments - and knowing Leibowitz, he undoubtedly lightened the mood with some Leibo-worthy humor along the way. He shared his love of flying generously, believing that well-trained pilots don’t just pursue a dream — they save lives.
In addition to giving generously to any cause in which his family was involved, Leibowitz was a supporter of many charities through his work and the races and events he championed throughout his life. His motto - “If I can do it, so can you” - guided everything he did, and it continues to inspire those who knew him.
“We are remembering my dad by doing what he would have done - investing in the next generation of pilots,” said Abby Leibowitz, co-owner of Katsubo. “He believed that aviation education and safety go hand in hand, and this scholarship is a way to carry that forward.”
The April fundraiser runs April 1 - 30 at Katsubo. Donations can also be made directly at callexperts.com/michael.
In addition, on May 17, the community can attend Miles for Michael 5.12K.
