Katie’s Krops, a Summerville-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth to grow a healthy end to hunger, proudly announces that its Flagship Garden produced an impressive 2,257.5 pounds of fresh produce during the month of June.
This abundant harvest—highlighted by 849 pounds of tomatoes, 406 pounds of eggplant, and 278 pounds of zucchini—demonstrates the incredible impact a compassionate and dedicated community can have when united around a shared mission. Each vegetable was carefully cultivated and harvested at peak ripeness, with much of the produce reaching individuals and families in need within an hour of leaving the garden.
Over 200 pounds of produce were harvested during the Katie’s Krops Camp, where youth growers from across the country joined in the Katie’s Krops flagship garden for several days of learning, growing and connecting.
“This month’s harvest reflects the heart and soul of our mission,” said Katie Stagliano, Founder of Katie’s Krops. “Every pound represents what’s possible when we come together to fight hunger and uplift our communities.”
The harvest was made possible by a remarkable team of volunteers—many of them children between the ages of one and ten—who worked tirelessly to plant, tend, and gather every fruit and vegetable. Their effort exemplifies the incredible difference youth can make!
The June harvest was distributed through key community partners, including:
- The Murray Church Food Pantry (God’s Kitchen) in Summerville
- Charleston County Library Free & Fresh Fridge Program
- Dorchester County Senior Center Food Distribution
- Keys to Change
- Katie’s Krops Garden-to-Table Dinners
These partnerships help ensure that fresh, healthy food reaches those who need it most.
