Home Team BBQ launched its annual “Tacos for Tom” fundraiser on June 2, aligning with Major League Baseball’s recognition of Lou Gehrig’s Day. Throughout the month of June, all Home Team locations—from Charleston to Aspen, CO—will be serving the limited-time Cheeseburger Taco (pictured) and selling ‘Tacos for Tom’ shirts and hats, with 100% of proceeds supporting families affected by ALS through a donation to Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS).
The Tacos for Tom campaign began in 2021 in honor of Tom Hodges, a beloved friend of Home Team following his ALS diagnosis. Sadly, Hodges lost his battle with ALS and passed away in April 2025. He was a devoted father, husband, son, and member of the Charleston community. He was known for his remarkable ability to bring people together.
Tom and his wife Jenn always thought of others and made ALS awareness a priority even while facing all of the personal challenges the disease presents. The Hodges care deeply about people’s ability to access resources through charities like Compassionate Care ALS.

CCALS is centered around understanding the unique experiences and challenges faced by families battling ALS, and delivering genuine and compassionate support that enhances their quality of life both for patients and caregivers. This includes financial grants, providing and paying for critical services and a retreat center for both patients and caregivers.
In 2024, Home Team BBQ raised $75,000 through its “Tacos for Tom” campaign, benefiting I AM ALS, Project Main Street, and the Hodges family. This year, the initiative expands to include Home Team locations in Columbia, SC; Greenville, SC; and Aspen, CO, with the goal of making it the most successful fundraising year yet. In addition to proceeds from taco sales, Home Team is actively seeking community partners to pledge a matching donation based on a designated dollar amount per taco sold. All funds raised will directly support Compassionate Care ALS, a cause close to Tom’s heart. He was passionate about ensuring people had access to critical resources through organizations like Compassionate Care ALS.
