Giannone, a new wine shop, mercantile and focacceria, has opened its sandwich shop in Mount Pleasant alongside Coastal Crust’s Pizza Bar and Vintage Coffee Cafe.
The menu focuses on artisanal Italian sandwiches built on house-made focaccia, along with brown butter chocolate chip cookies, traditional Italian rainbow cookies and fresh pasta salads.
At the center of it all is Giannone’s signature focaccia, baked fresh in-house daily using traditional techniques. Crisp on the outside and airy inside, the bread anchors Italian-inspired sandwiches layered with carefully sourced meats, cheeses, vegetables and house-made spreads.
A market component is expected to open soon, adding a curated selection of wines from around the world, Italian food products and a small mercantile section featuring home goods and gifts. A wine club is also planned for those interested in learning more about the craftsmanship and history behind the bottles.
“Giannone was created to be more than a place to grab a sandwich,” owner Brian Piesner said. “It’s a place to gather, to linger, and to feel welcome — where food and wine bring people together the way they always have in Italian culture.”
Giannone is located at 216 Scott St., sharing the property at 219 Simmons St. with Coastal Crust and Vintage Coffee Cafe. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
