The Charleston County Public Library (CCPL), Charleston County School District (CCSD) and the Lowcountry Food Bank (LFB) have teamed up to provide free meals and snacks at several library branches for kids this summer break. The Summer Feeding program begins on Monday, June 1 and runs through Aug. 7.
This program, which is in conjunction with CCSD’s Seamless Summer Feeding and LFB’s Summer Meals, provides free lunches or snacks to children ages 5-18 during the traditional summer vacation period. Lunches are provided by the CCSD’s Nutrition Services Department for distribution at nine CCPL branches Monday through Friday, and all meals meet federal meal patterns and nutritional requirements. Lunches are provided, courtesy of the LFB, to three additional branches. There is no eligibility process required for participants to obtain free meals or snacks at the participating branches, and meals are available on a first come first served basis.
“At Charleston County Public Library, we believe that access to nutritious food is a key part of supporting lifelong learning and community well-being,” said Kathleen Montgomery, CCPL’s Associate Director of Community Engagement. “We’re proud to continue this vital work with CCSD and LFB to help ensure that no child goes hungry while school is out.”
CCPL and CCSD will serve lunches to children ages 5-18 between June 1 and July 24 (no service on observed holidays, June 19 and July 3) at nine branch locations Monday through Friday. Meals must be eaten on site.
