La Cave, a new sipping lounge and salon privé from Félix Landrum, the owner behind the highly celebrated, Parisian-inspired restaurant and cocktail bar Félix Cocktails et Cuisine, is now open on Upper King Street. Located next door to its sister restaurant, La Cave’s inviting atmosphere evokes the slower pace of the south of France, offering an extensive selection of organic French wines, high end whiskies, and cordials meant to be sipped and paired alongside a menu of small plates.
La Cave, which translates to “the cellar,” transports guests to the south of France, where vineyards dominate the French countryside and elegant Provençal style is on full display. With large, street facing windows, light pours into the intimate dining room and bar, where natural wood finishes, exposed stone walls, and crystal chandeliers create a sophisticated setting.
Reclaimed wooden beams and custom coffered tiles traverse the ceiling, while light blonde wood floors are laid in a herringbone parquet. The bar, which seats twelve, features a dramatic crown molding drop down ceiling where two oversized chandeliers hang, while glass-front cabinets flank either side and house a curated selection of all-French wines and a substantial collection of rare whiskeys and cordials.
In the front corner of the lounge, separated by archways, is a large, custom wooden farm table, which doubles as a semi-private dining room when concealed with the surrounding flowing drapery.
The space also features a gallery wall of hand painted family portraits by the couple’s daughter, Pierette and sourced and shopped antiques.
Inspired by owner Félix’s Landrum’s travels and love of the South of France, the menu features a selection of petits plats, from small bites to sizeable dishes, all meant to be shared. Guests can expect options like:
- Prunier French Osetra Caviar atop a crispy potato nest with crème fraîche and fresh chive
- Seasonal Gougères with warm camembert cheese, cranberry, and toasted pumpkin seeds
- Petite Bouillabaisse, a smaller, refined version of the traditional Provençal fish stew, served with a side of crusty bread for dipping
- Filet Mignon Tartine with wild mushroom, whipped chèvre, basil, and olive oil atop a grilled baguette
- Apéro Board for a nod to the French tradition with a chef’s selection of cured meats, cheeses, tinned seafood, and snacks
- Oysters and Caviar Service
- Bœuf en Croûte with king trumpet mushrooms, sauce bordelaise, and cipollini onion
- Roasted Prawns with coriander, piquillo pepper butter, shaved radish, and grilled lemon.
Craft cocktails, organic wines, and high end whiskeys and cognacs are the focus of La Cave’s French-forward beverage program. The space serves as a sipping lounge. The French wine list features over 100 bottles, all hand selected by Landrum and stored in a temperature-controlled custom wine cabinet to ensure optimal storage, and of course, presentation
The cocktail menu includes a list of bright and balanced, aptly named creations, including:
- Jardin Party with citadelle jardin gin, melon liqueur, rinomato, and sweatman’s tonic
- Cézanne’s Provence with basil, calvados, pomegranate molasses, lemon, and orange & lavender bitters
- Sidecar de Figue with cognac, bitter melon, peppercorn, dry curaçao lemon, demerara, and fig foam.
- Martini de Luxe which features fromage washed vodka, saline, and lillet, and is served with a caviar crisp on the side
