Fam’s Brewing Co. is kicking off Oktoberfest season in the Lowcountry on Saturday, Sept. 19, with Hoptoberfest, now in its ninth year.
The ceremonial firkin will be tapped at noon, followed by the Charleston Polka Kings from 1:30-4:30 p.m. The patio will feature German-style food, 1-liter steins, costumes and a full afternoon of games.
The lineup includes the Beer Puppet Challenge, where competitors use strings to maneuver a suspended beer toward their mouths, and Bavarian Dress & Dash, where racers fight their way into giant pants, suspenders, oversized shoes and a Bavarian hat before finishing under a limbo bar.
Stein Slide, Alpine Hat Toss, live polka Musical Chairs and Stein Hoist round out the competitions.
Hoptoberfest runs from noon-5 p.m. at Fam’s Brewing Co., 1291 Folly Road. The event is free to attend.
Then, on Saturday, Oct. 3, Famulari’s Hanahan will close out Oktoberfest season with its second annual Oktoberfest Finale Party from 1-5 p.m. The Charleston Polka Kings will perform from 1:30-4:30 p.m., and the event will feature the same lineup of games.
Famulari’s Hanahan is located at 1000 Tanner Ford Blvd. in Hanahan.
