As federal emergency SNAP funding comes to an end at the end of this month, the Lowcountry faces an alarming surge in food insecurity, pushing more families and individuals into dire straits. Cuisine Rescue, Inc., one of many local organizations working to fight against hunger and food waste, is issuing an urgent appeal to the food service industry and broader community to join forces in mitigating this escalating crisis, which impacts both people and the planet.
According to recent statistics, nearly 1 in 7 South Carolinians are now struggling with food shortages, a heartbreaking reality exacerbated by the loss of vital federal assistance. The importance of food rescue has never been more critical as we seek to alleviate hunger and reduce waste within our vibrant community.
Why Food Rescue Matters
- Combat Hunger: The food rescue movement directly addresses food insecurity by ensuring that surplus food reaches those who need it most.
- Environmental Impact: Reducing food waste mitigates greenhouse gas emissions and benefits the planet, making food rescue a more sustainable solution than many alternatives.
- Community Building: Like in any time of crisis, we now have the opportunity to come together to build stronger and more resilient community bonds in service to our collective needs.

Cuisine Rescue is seeking collaborative partnerships with individuals and organizations within the food service industry and beyond. We have volunteers ready to deliver food where it is needed.
