Cru Catering today announced that it will expand its footprint in 2024 with the addition of a historic event space in Hollywood, SC. The acquisition of the property will usher in the 25th anniversary of Cru Catering next year, in which owner/executive chef John Zucker and long-time business partner Justin Broome will mark this milestone by offering full-service events at the property.
Having seen many chapters from its early days as a 24-hour general store to its nearly 40-year reign as a distinguished event venue, ‘Old Wide Awake’s’ next chapter will officially commence as Zucker and Broome now helm this historic site.
For Zucker, proprietor of both Cru Catering and the just-closed Cru Café, the acquisition goes beyond simply preserving the property – it’s about embracing a legacy.
“We feel truly fortunate to be the stewards of an estate with such deep roots,” says Zucker. “To us, Old Wide Awake is more than just an event space – we feel privileged to now carry on its tradition of creating unforgettable memories.”
Zucker and Broome say they will preserve the idyllic southern charm of the storied property which is nestled on a serene bluff minutes away from the Stono River.
Broome, who shares a deep appreciation for historical preservation states, “We want to honor the unique architecture and natural beauty of Old Wide Awake while infusing modern sensibility. The property has been a backdrop for countless love stories and we’re committed to ensuring it remains a cherished destination for generations to come.”
The duo’s plans for the property emphasize collaboration – they intend to maintain partnerships with talented caterers and vendors who have been a part of the venue’s success.
“Charleston’s wedding scene thrives on relationships,” Zucker notes. “This union of efforts makes every event one-of-a-kind and we will always keep this at the forefront of our endeavors.”
