The Chucktown Brewdown: Homebrew Festival will return to Fam’s Brewing Co., 1291 Folly Road, for its seventh edition on Saturday, April 18, from 1 to 5 p.m. The event will feature 20 homebrewing teams from across the Lowcountry competing for top honors while giving the public a rare look at what Charleston’s next generation of brewers has been developing.
This year’s competition introduces a single-style challenge in which every team will craft its own interpretation of an IPA using the same base ingredients. Teams will also pour additional styles beyond the competition, including stouts, sours, lagers, wheat beers and more, giving attendees a wide range of options.
Fam’s Brewing Co. head brewer Justin got his start as a homebrewer, competing at events like this one and refining the recipe that became the Skinny Vanilla Latte Blonde Stout before eventually opening the brewery. Coffin Island Brewing and Wyrd Sisters Brewing share similar origin stories rooted in the Charleston homebrew community.
“This festival has always been a proving ground for Charleston’s best brewers,” said Jonah Jeter of The Becket Agency. “Seven years in, the results speak for themselves. The talent coming out of the local homebrew community here is real, and Chucktown Brewdown is where it gets its first stage.”
The festival will also feature live music from Reverse Cowgirl, lawn games and food. The event is open to guests 21 and older.
General admission tickets are available now for $15 in advance. Day-of tickets are $30 at the door, subject to availability. Capacity is limited.
