In the midst of Black History Month, Don Luchi Prosecco will highlight the unique, yet often overlooked, history behind Gullah Geechee winemaking and heritage. Partnering with KJ Kearney of Black Food Fridays, these Charleston natives will help chronicle their ancestors’ legacy and contributions to American winemaking through an exclusive content release on February 19 on Instagram. To bridge generations of Carolina coastal wine cultivation and modern innovation, this campaign will feature Gullah Geechee culinary preservationist Pamela D. Jones Mack of Taste of Satira in Atlanta.
“The Gullah Geechee Corridor holds centuries of winemaking knowledge that deserves recognition,” says Justin Wages, co-founder of Don Luchi. “While our Prosecco is crafted in Italy, our journey is deeply rooted in the traditions of our ancestors, who crafted wines from local ingredients long before the modern American wine industry.”
Jones Mack, a native of Cross, SC, will demonstrate traditional winemaking methods passed down through generations—showcasing the resourcefulness and craftsmanship of Gullah Geechee culture. This collaboration will highlight how “traditional Gullah Geechee knowledge continues to shape innovation today,” as KJ Kearney of Black Food Fridays perfectly describes it. For the founders of Don Luchi, this collaboration also amplifies the meaning behind their “Toast to Black Excellence,” a core principle since launching the Prosecco in June 2024, as they honor and celebrate Black history everyday through the brand. “This creates a powerful bridge between the past and the future, with Black entrepreneurs in wine acknowledging their cultural roots,” Kearney, went further to add.
The exclusive content will debut across Don Luchi Prosecco’s (@officialdonluchi) and Black Food Fridays’ (@blackfoodfridays) Instagram platforms, offering a behind-the-scenes look at traditional winemaking processes and discussions on Black innovation in the wine industry. For updates, follow Don Luchi on Instagram and visit officialdonluchi.com for more info
