Cannon Distillery announced the upcoming release of its first signature rhum, a single-barrel release and artisanal spirit that pays homage to the rich agricultural history of the South Carolina Lowcountry. The release will make its debut at Cannon Distillery in Charleston on Aug. 29.
The new rhum is made entirely from St. Croix Purple Ribbon cane grown at Sugar Daddy Farms. This heirloom varietal is harvested locally at Sugar Daddy Farms on Wadmalaw Island, where the coastal soil and maritime climate produce cane with a distinct flavor and sweetness.
The resulting distillate was barrel-aged for six years, developing the depth and character of a long-aged spirit while retaining the distinctive agricultural character of the Wadmalaw Island cane.
The Launch Event
The release of this limited-edition spirit will be celebrated with an exclusive evening at Cannon Distillery featuring James London, owner and chef of Chubby Fish in Charleston. London, a big fan of rhum, selected this barrel to pair with his cuisine.
Guests will have the opportunity to taste the new rhum neat and featured in specially curated craft cocktails from Seahorse, paired with a selection of dishes from Chubby Fish.
The event will feature signature rhum tastings, a meet-the-makers session and local pairings.
Due to the limited harvest of St. Croix Purple Ribbon cane, this release is highly allocated.
Tickets are $100, with bottles available as an optional $60 add-on.
Due to limited supply, bottles will be limited to one per person on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tickets include curated rhum cocktails from Seahorse, rhum tastings, small bites from Chubby Fish and a meet-the-makers session.
