After more than a decade on the Upper Peninsula, the Cooper River Brewing Company on Thursday announced that "effective immediately" their taproom was closed. Despite the closure, the brewery will continue to make and distribute their beers.
Here's the announcement from the company's Facebook page:
"After more than a decade on the Upper Peninsula, we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to close our taproom effective immediately.
From day one, our goal was always to be a production brewery—a place focused on brewing fresh, local, low-ABV ales. Our taproom, tucked away at the end of a dead-end street with no kitchen, was never meant to compete with Charleston’s incredible bar and restaurant scene. Instead, we wanted to build lasting relationships with the places that pour our beer. And thanks to you, it worked!
We’ve always been a small but passionate team, doing our best to bring you the perfect Golden Ale for the beach or an Orange Blonde for the boat. We can’t thank you enough for embracing that vision with us over the years.
One thing is for sure: the beer isn’t going anywhere.
But the world has changed. Post-pandemic, the demand for beer-only taprooms has shifted, insurance has become more complicated, and downtown rent is nowhere near what it was a decade ago.
So while our taproom chapter is coming to a close, our focus remains the same—making great beer.
We’ll have more announcements soon, and we can’t wait to share what’s next. Until then, thank you for the love, the pints, and the memories.
Cheers,
CRBC
P.S.
To all the incredible employees who poured their hearts into our taproom over the past 10 years…thank you!!! You are what made the space truly special. We are forever grateful for your time, your spirit, and the unforgettable experiences you helped create."
