Charleston Crafts Gallery, an artist-owned cooperative in the heart of downtown Charleston, is pleased to present its September exhibition, Imagine: Head in the Clouds which opens with a public reception on Friday, September 4th, from 5pm to 8pm.
Imagine features original work by the gallery’s member artists, including three ceramicists with widely varying styles and approaches to the theme, as well as works in mixed media collage, polymer clay jewelry, and assemblages.
The exhibition showcases contemporary fine craft by skilled South Carolina artists across a broad spectrum of media.
Featured artists include:
Selma Andrews — a polymer clay artist, creating millefiori beads for stylishly chunky necklaces and other accessories, as well as found object assemblages
Marty Biernbaum — a ceramicist known for her quirky birds, lava glazes and vibrant cobalt blue vessels
Angie Moss Brown — sculptor of whimsical ceramic vessel-creatures brought to life with hand-carved surfaces and organic edges
Robin Hippel — creates functional form-forward and textural ceramics, celebrating experimentation and variation
Susan Livingston — a mixed media fiber artist combining intuitive stitching, natural dyes, and found objects in compositions simultaneously quiet and dramatic
The artists of Imagine: Head in the Clouds present a collection capturing the imaginative joy of creating through contemporary fine craft.
