The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art is kicking off the new year with their "A New Year Free-for-all" event, sponsored by blūm, on January 11th from 6 pm to 8:30 pm in honor of the institute's 40th anniversary in 2024.
Free and open to the public, art lovers are invited to this one-hour communal art-making event featuring two rounds: 30 minutes of creating before swapping work with another artist to create for an additional 30 minutes. Whether it’s a drawing that was never completed, a pastel that wasn’t the right shade, a paper that was too small, or a sculpture that didn’t complete a vision, the Halsey also encourages attendees to bring in any past work, materials, or supplies of their choosing and give another artist a go at creating.
Art supplies will be offered by the Halsey, and the only rule is that all work must be able to be taped to a wall or displayed on tables/floor once finished (no oil paint, heavy machinery and hate speech or imagery).
Artists can celebrate their newly finished artwork, which will be displayed and on view in the institute’s galleries, and enjoy the “opening” of this one-night-only exhibition with drinks, bites and music.
