Step into a world where Victorian elegance meets industrial edge! We Are Family invites LGBTQ+ youth and allies to don their finest corsets, top hats, and clockwork-inspired attire for an unforgettable night of mystery, magic, and mechanical marvels at the Charleston Queer Youth Prom: A Gothic Steampunk Affair.
Taking place on Saturday, March 29th, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Park Circle Community Building, this spectacular soiree blends the bold, rebellious spirit of steampunk with the rich, romantic aesthetics of gothic fantasy. With a Youth Talent Showcase to kick off the evening, hands-on creative stations, and a dance floor set to ignite with energy and expression, this prom promises to be a night where gears turn, masks shimmer, and everyone shines.
Jonatan Guerrero-Ramirez, We Are Family’s Program Director, shared: “Our goal for the Charleston Queer Youth Prom is to create a space where LGBTQ+ youth can fully celebrate themselves without fear or hesitation. This is more than just a dance—it’s a night of joy, belonging, and self-expression, where every young person can step into their own power and revel in a community that uplifts them.”
What to Expect at This Enchanting Evening:
- DIY Mask & Steampunk Hat Stations – Create a unique masquerade look with guidance from local artisans.

Domenico Ruggerio, Executive Director, added: “At a time when LGBTQ+ youth are facing increasing challenges and hostility, it is more critical than ever to carve out spaces where they feel safe, seen, and celebrated. The Charleston Queer Youth Prom is more than an event—it is an act of resistance, a declaration of joy, and a reminder that every queer and trans young person deserves a world where they can live authentically and thrive.”
