The Tony Award-winning Best Musical “The Wiz” is returning to the stage and will play eight performances at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center from April 14–19, 2026.
Tickets go on sale Monday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.com. The production is presented by Best of Broadway.
Producers say the North Charleston engagement will showcase the show’s iconic score, which blends soul, gospel, rock, and 1970s funk, along with a modern twist on Dorothy’s journey in Oz.
The principal cast includes Dana Cimone as Dorothy, making her national tour debut; Alan Mingo Jr., reprising the role he originated on the pre-Broadway tour and played on Broadway as The Wiz; Sheherazade as Glinda; Kyla Jade as Aunt Em/Evillene; D. Jerome (MJ the Musical, Hamilton) as the Tinman; Cal Mitchell (The White Rose, The Color Purple) as the Lion; and Elijah Ahmad Lewis (Ain’t Too Proud, Motown The Musical) as the Scarecrow.
The ensemble features performers from across the country, including Maati Kheprimeni Angaza, Sai Anthony, Joseph Armon Boyd, Aliyah Caldwell and others.
The design team includes scenic design by Academy Award-winner Hannah Beachler, costume design by Sharen Davis, lighting design by Ryan J. O’Gara, and contributions from a host of award-winning designers in sound, video, wigs, and makeup.
Based on L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Wiz premiered on Broadway in 1975, winning seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Its breakout songs include “Ease on Down the Road” and “Home”. The 1978 film adaptation starred Diana Ross, Richard Pryor, Mabel King, Lena Horne, and Ted Ross, marking Quincy Jones’ first collaboration with Michael Jackson. The most recent Broadway revival ran from March to August 2024 at the Marquis Theater in New York City.
