PURE Theatre brings the sharp, hilarious and Tony Award-winning Eureka Day to Charleston for its Southeast Regional Premiere, running Nov. 6–Dec. 6, 2025, at the Cannon Street Arts Center. From the first chaotic school board meeting to the final surprising twist, this “gaspingly funny” (New York Times) gem of a play shines a spotlight on community, conflict and the messy truths of trying to do the “right thing.”
The Eureka Day School in Berkeley, California, is a bastion of progressive ideals: representation, acceptance and social justice. In weekly meetings, its five board members work to preserve this culture of inclusivity, making decisions only by consensus. But when a mumps outbreak threatens the Eureka community, the board realizes with horror that they’ll have to do what they swore they never would — make a choice that won’t please everyone.
“Jonathan Spector’s play is funny, clever and deeply relevant, even though it’s set in 2018,” said director Rodney Lee Rogers. “It’s about how communities negotiate truth, fear and responsibility — and it does so in a way that’s thrilling, heartwarming and utterly entertaining. This play challenges audiences to think, laugh and maybe squirm in recognition.”
The production features (from left to right) PURE Core Ensemble members Anna Lin, David Mandel, Addison Dent, Camille Lowman and Zania Cummings. Sylvia Jefferies will understudy the role of Suzanne.
Tickets for Eureka Day range from $47 to $53. Pay-What-You-Will performances will take place on Nov. 6 and 12, with tickets available for online purchase one week before the show’s opening. Student tickets are available for $12 for every performance. Eureka Day is also included in the Season 23 Flex Pass, which offers five flexible tickets and additional member perks.
Tickets and Flex Passes are available now at puretheatre.org.
