TEDxCharleston typically draws nearly 1,000 in-person attendees each year, along with a large online audience. The locally organized event is part of the globally recognized TED platform, which provides communities with a stage to share “ideas worth spreading.”
The 2026 theme, Symphony, explores the convergence of voices, ideas and technologies shaping modern society. It celebrates the interplay of nature, art, culture, innovation, history and technology, emphasizing that meaningful progress is often achieved through collaboration rather than in isolation.
Founded in 1984, TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design and highlights research, ideas and disciplines that aim to better understand and connect the world.
TEDxCharleston organizers say the event is committed to authentically representing the Charleston community and fostering inclusivity among speakers and attendees. The impact of ideas shared on the TEDxCharleston stage, they note, reflects the diversity of perspectives and experiences represented, with equal opportunity extended to all applicants who meet participation criteria.
