Best of Broadway at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center has announced that tickets for “The Bodyguard” will go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31. Performances are scheduled for Nov. 17-22.
Based on the 1992 film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, “The Bodyguard” is a romantic musical combining suspense with a soundtrack of well-known songs.
The story follows former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer, who is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker. Both expect to be in control of the situation, but neither expects to fall in love.
The musical features songs including “Queen of the Night,” “So Emotional,” “I Will Always Love You,” “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” “Saving All My Love” and “One Moment in Time.”
The production is led by director Samantha Saltzman and features a book by Alexander Dinelaris, choreography by Jim Cooney, and music supervision and additional orchestrations by Darryl Archibald.
The creative team also includes scenic designer Christine Peters, lighting designer Craig Stelzenmuller, sound designer Josh Reid, costume designer Whitney Locher, and hair and wig designer Liz Printz. Casting is by ARC.
Originally produced in London’s West End by Michael Harrison and David Ian from 2012 to 2014, “The Bodyguard” made its North American premiere Nov. 25, 2016, at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey.
Following its limited engagement, the U.S. tour opened Jan. 10, 2017, at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis and visited 42 cities. The musical has also been produced internationally in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Monaco, the Netherlands, South Korea and Australia, among other locations.
Based on the Warner Bros. film and screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan, “The Bodyguard” is produced with permission from Warner Bros. Theater Ventures Inc. and presented through special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide. The production is produced by Crossroads Live.
