Acclaimed actor Amber Nash (Pam Poovey from FX’s Archer) and local improver Greg Tavares, who co-founded Theatre 99, announced the release of their new book Improv for Couples: Fun Games for You and Your Partner will take place on March 15, 2025.
Improv for Couples is a playful guide designed to help couples of all backgrounds discover the joy of connection through improv. No prior improv experience is necessary.
“We wrote this book because we’ve both seen how great marriages can be with an abundance of laughter and communication," Nash said. "We realized it was our backgrounds in improv showing up in our everyday lives and wanted to share that with other couples."
Inside Improv for Couples, readers will find:
- Easy-to-follow instructions for each improv game.
- Hints and tips to make the games accessible and fun.
- The principles of play and how to use the tenets of improv to introduce helpful communication tools to your relationship.
“Whether you’ve been together for 30 days or 30 years, Improv for Couples offers a bunch of fun and easy-to-play games that will make you laugh and unleash your playful side," said Tavares. "Improv is not just about being funny—it’s about truly connecting with your partner.”
To celebrate the book's release, the duo will host an improv comedy show and book signing at Theatre 99 on March 20, 2025.
Nash graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in psychology. She joined the ensemble of renowned Atlanta comedy and improv theater Dad’s Garage in 2004 and served as their education director for 6 years.
Tavares started doing improv in 1985 and never stopped. He has performed in thousands of shows and taught hundreds of classes. He studied acting (BFA) and directing (MFA) and has written and directed over 30 plays. He created the curriculum taught in Theatre 99’s improv training program, based on his book, Improv for Everyone.
His other books include Daddy Issues: How to Stop Worrying and Love Being a Dad and I Am the Horrible Thing. He lives in Charleston, South Carolina, with his wife, Sara, and their two boys.
