The conversation surrounding literacy in the Lowcountry reached a fever pitch last week as over 700 registered attendees gathered at the Charleston Music Hall for the premiere of "The Tide of Change." The event, titled “The Rising Tide,” served as more than just a film screening; it was a community wide call to action. The documentary spotlights the transformative power of the "Science of Reading" and the dedicated teachers, families, and partners working with the Lowcountry Literacy Project (LLP) to ensure every child has the tools to succeed.
One of the most poignant stories featured in the documentary is that of Logan, a student who previously struggled because she was unable to access specialized literacy instruction at her school, Carolina Park Elementary.
In a powerful "full circle" development shared during the event, LLP is proud to announce that Carolina Park Elementary has officially signed on as the project’s next partner school. This partnership ensures that the students coming after Logan will have immediate access to the essential, evidence-based instruction she once lacked, right within their own classrooms.
The success of Tuesday’s premiere is only the beginning. To keep this vital conversation moving forward, the Lowcountry Literacy Project plans to host a series of “Rising Tide” branded events throughout the year, fostering continued collaboration between educators, parents, and local leaders.
“Seeing 700 people show up for our children's future proves that Charleston is ready for this change,” said Lindsey Ballenger, Executive Director of LLP. “We aren't just starting a conversation; we are building a movement to close the literacy gap for good.”
For those who were unable to attend the premiere, the documentary "The Tide of Change" is now officially available for download on the Lowcountry Literacy Project website.
Additionally, due to high demand following the premiere, LLP is now booking private screenings for community organizations, schools, and corporate partners who wish to bring this message to their own networks. Download the film here: lowcountryliteracyproject.org. Contact Info@
