With over 80 percent of global travelers saying that sustainable tourism is important to them, ecotourism has never been more popular. That’s why The Palmetto, a downtown boutique hotel, has created the Lowcountry Oyster Farm Package to give guests a deeper look into an integral part of Charleston’s food culture and one of the most environmentally sustainable forms of aquaculture: oyster farming.
In collaboration with Lowcountry Oyster Company (LowCo.), this package is an interactive experience allowing guests to see, smell, touch, and taste one of the culinary backbones of the region, while learning about sustainable oyster cage farming via a scenic boat excursion. Following the farm tour, guests are invited to enjoy a dozen freshly harvested oysters, along with a shucking tutorial from the experts, on the dock against the backdrop of the ACE Basin. The excursion also includes private luxury round-trip transportation to and from The Palmetto.
LowCo.'s popular oysters, Lowcountry Cups, are served year-round (not just in months with “r”) at some of the city’s best restaurants, many just a short walk from The Palmetto Hotel.
