Who is your chosen family? David Antonio Cruz’s artwork in hauntme depicts the artist's close friends and family in luxurious repose in his large, resplendent oil paintings. He created this body of work in 2020, when traditional spaces for gathering with queer family were not accessible. Alternatively, Joshua Parks finds kinship all over the African Diaspora in his exhibition, Born in We: African Descendants of the Atlantic World. His black and white portraits highlight the similarities across continents in foodways, style, and way of life in the Caribbean, West Africa, and the Lowcountry.
