Second Sleep highlights Maria Britton’s textile-based works called Draperies, in which patterned bedsheets become expertly layered, pleated, and playful abstract paintings. Mounted on the wall in curtain-like forms, her Draperies shape liminal portals of reflection, whether obscuring the past or inviting to imagine what lies beyond.
To complement this exhibition, The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art & Naked Lady Society are hosting a Clothing Swap on Saturday, July 11, 1:00-4:00 PM. Participants can refresh their wardrobes and give their clothes a second life by bringing gently used, unwanted clothing and accessories to swap for new pieces for free!
Folks of all styles, shapes, sizes, and ages are welcome. Clean out your closet, meet other amazing people, support local causes, and update your wardrobe in an environmentally friendly way. Bring any stylish clothes you’re not feeling anymore and swap them for a free wardrobe refresh. Unclaimed clothing will be donated to local organizations.
Bring your own reusable bags with your unwanted, yet wearable items. There is a two-bag limit on what attendees can bring. Pro-tip: wear snug-fitting clothes so you can easily try on clothing.
What to expect:
- Arrive with your bag(s) of gently used clothing and accessories. Limit - 2 bags.
- Hand your items to a volunteer, who will then place them on tables, loosely grouped with other clothing.
- Take as much clothing as you want! Leave with a fabulous new wardrobe (in your own reusable bags).
- The remaining items will be donated to local organizations for sorting and resale.
About Naked Lady Society
The Naked Lady Society began in May 2018 by a group of friends as a way to expand their friend group, share their love of fashion, and give back to the local community. Their guiding principles include empowering women through fostering friendships, networking, collaboration, and cross-promotion, as well as building up the local community. They believe that when women are genuinely supportive of one another, AMAZING things can happen! Each of their events promotes a local nonprofit and provides a platform for raising awareness.
