The Summerville Orchestra (S.O.) is excited to announce its 2024-2025 season, "The Power of Music," a showcase demonstrating the power of music to ignite emotion.
“We have carefully curated each of our concert experiences to feature some favorites from the orchestral repertoire,” said Music Director Wojciech Milewski. “But we will also surprise you with some things you won’t expect. We can’t wait to welcome you into the hall!”
The season kicks off with the warm, inviting “Welcome Back” concert on Oct. 4 and 5, featuring Dvořák's Symphony No. 8, Gershwin's Overture to Girl Crazy and more. Next is the fan favorite “Holiday Spectacular” on Dec. 13 and 14, featuring a special premiere arrangement of Clara and the Nutcracker Prince by Tchaikovsky, Respighi and Bizet, arranged by Milewski.
The season continues in 2025 with “The Poet and the Muse” concert in February, highlighting love through Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy. Then in April, the S.O. takes on the powerful performance of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5. The grand finale in May, “A Cinematic Finish,” will feature Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the famous Pini di Roma (Pines of Rome) and renowned violinist Benjamin Baker performing Korngold’s Violin Concerto.
“Other orchestras around the country work to have people become part of their symphonic community,” says Executive Director Andrew Price. “As a community orchestra, the S.O. is all about our orchestra becoming a part of the community.”
Price describes the way the theme and musical selections come together as a process of “listening to our audience members, getting feedback from our musicians and asking ourselves how the orchestra can continue to become one with the community. What we’ve come up with for this new season is powerful, playful and designed to stir a range of emotions.”
Season tickets are $90 for adults and $6 for students under 18. Individual tickets are $25 for adults and $2 for students. All subscription series concerts will be held at the Summers Corner Performing Arts Center. To purchase tickets and for more information, visit www.
