This month, the South Carolina Aquarium celebrates its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter century of serving as a world of natural wonder, a hub of STEM education, a driver of conservation action and a sanctuary of fun for the community and beyond.
Reflecting on 25 Years of Impact
Since opening in 2000, the Aquarium has served as a beacon of opportunity for the community. They have educated millions of schoolchildren through a vast slate of STEM programming, cared for thousands of resident animals, welcomed more than 11 million visitors through their doors, rehabilitated and released 451 sea turtles back to the wild (and counting) and made immense strides in leading community driven conservation efforts. The Aquarium's influence stretches far beyond its walls, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural world.
Join the Celebration: 25th Anniversary Block Party on May 18
In honor of this momentous occasion, the Aquarium invites the community to join the celebration with their fun-filled 25th Anniversary Block Party, presented by TD Bank. On Sunday, May 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Liberty Square in downtown Charleston will transform into a lively festival ground. Guests can enjoy a variety of free family activities including a climbing wall, bounce houses and face painting. A selection of local food trucks will also be selling lunch at the event.
"As we commemorate 25 years in the heart of Charleston, we feel immense gratitude toward the community we serve around the state of South Carolina and beyond," said Kevin Mills, President and CEO of the South Carolina Aquarium. "The impact and success we've achieved are a testament to the unwavering support of partnering organizations, dedicated members, generous donors and every visitor who has shared in the wonder of connecting with our incredible animals. We're so excited to celebrate this moment with all of our supporters at our 25th Anniversary Block Party right in front of the Aquarium, and dream together what the next 25 will look like.”
