Singers of Summerville is delighted to announce its 23rd concert season, featuring a new partnership and two collaborative performances with the Summerville Orchestra. The group is thrilled to be working with the Summerville Orchestra and its music director, Wojciech Milewski, to enrich the musical arts in Summerville and bring joy, transform lives and nourish the soul of the greater Summerville community.
Emily Reeves Bohl, artistic director and conductor, has crafted a selection of music for the group’s two standalone concert programs this season, titled “Long Time Traveller” in the fall and “Beyond” in the spring.
Long Time Traveller
The rich beauty of the American musical landscape is a mirror, reflecting the culture and expressions of the many, not the few. Folk hymnody is one such expression. Woven from the traditions of Scottish, Irish and English settlers, borrowing from their ballads and modal melodies and coupled with spiritual texts of the 18th and 19th centuries, the folk hymnody of Appalachia is as powerful and vibrant as the mountain ranges where it was born.
“Long Time Traveller” is a portrait of the Appalachian Mountains and their memories, featuring a variety of music that excites, enchants and inspires.

Beyond
Time, space, identity, love, divinity. These are the intangible, inexplicable constructs that drive and define us. They are beyond our comprehension or control, beyond the here and now, and beyond us.
Featuring music for choir and percussion ensemble, “Beyond” is an ode to that which we see, feel and know but cannot fully grasp: the truths that are mysteries and questions that are answers — that which is beyond.

Singing in the Holidays
Summerville’s favorite holiday spectacular is back, and Singers of Summerville will join the Summerville Orchestra and Summerville High School choirs for this special concert full of holiday cheer that brings to life some of the most iconic, nostalgic and joyful sounds of the season.

Spiritual Journey
Music has always helped humanity search for meaning. Singers of Summerville is delighted to join the Summerville Orchestra for this musical experience. “Spiritual Journey” explores that universal journey through sounds both ancient and modern. From sacred Latin texts and Buddhist reflections to a powerful Swahili version of “The Lord’s Prayer” and a cinematic exploration of faith and personal conviction, this concert celebrates the many ways people seek connection, hope and meaning.

Artistic Director and Conductor Emily Reeves Bohl will lead Singers of Summerville again this season. Bohl is a choral conductor and music educator whose experience spans early childhood, secondary, university and community settings. In addition to her work with Singers of Summerville, Bohl currently serves as director of choral activities at Goose Creek High School and assistant director of The King's Counterpoint.
Bohl is a past recipient of the South Carolina American Choral Directors Association Emerging Scholar Award (2024) and the South Carolina Music Educators Association Outstanding Young Music Educator Award (2025). Her complete biography is available at singersofsummerville.org/about-us/.
