Beeple Studios will host a silent art auction during Charleston Art Night on Dec. 13 from 7 p.m. to midnight at 2325 Charleston Regional Pkwy. The event will support the local nonprofit Public Works Art Center and its upcoming expansion to promote the arts in the Lowcountry. The auction features work from 43 local artists, each creating a piece on-site exclusively for the fundraiser — an unprecedented show of support for accessible community arts.
“This is enormous,” Public Works Exhibition Coordinator Linda Pepper said. “Forty-three local artists have committed to creating art at this event to be auctioned; this is not something that happens every day. We are amazed by the community of artists rallying around us. Their incredible generosity helps ensure that the arts remain an accessible, vital, unifying force in our region.”
Participating live-painting artists include Hirona Matsuda, Taylor Faulkner, Anna Chen, Julia Deckman, Savannah Strickroth, James Wine, Lauren Ridenour, Cat Wondergem, Kevin Morrissey, Morgan Kinne, Stephanie Shank, Will Kiser of Dos Bandidos, Josh Drews, Andrew Frye, Doug McAbee, Katherine Rumminger, Devann Gardner, Maddie Foss, Patch Whisky, Tim Showers, Riivo Kruuk, Steve Cefalo, Nathan Durfee, Sean Williams, Bryson Lee Webb, Daria Sokolova (“DashDashDash”), Scott Debus, Cara Fischer, Demetrius Bing, Nick Rypkema, Jeremy Croft, Nysa Hicks Puig, Stephanie Fryx, Beth Bollinger, Ashley Stanol, Habibah “Kalianna” Palmer, Chloe Hogan, Melanie McClellan-Hartnett, James Nabach, Madeline Dukes, Luke Dicresce, Jeleata Nicole, Wesley Israel, Thomas Michael Meddaugh, and Kat Goldberg.
“Every single one of these people believes in the value of the arts in the Lowcountry and is graciously giving their time and energy to help us move our mission forward,” Pepper said. “We hope people bid — and bid high.”
Pepper noted that proceeds will directly benefit Public Works Art Center, which is preparing to expand into a neighboring historic building. Funds raised will help the organization double its affordable art classes, camps, and workshops; support more artists in exhibitions; collaborate with additional community partners; and offer more free events throughout the year.
