Way back in 2016, Sausage Party caused quite a stir among moviegoers. The absurd setting of an R-rated adult animated comedy featuring food realizing that being purchased only means a grizzly death, as opposed to the foretold salvation, certainly made it stand out at cinemas.
On top of this, there was one particular scene that ended up catching the headlines as both a warning and an advertisement for just how inappropriate the film is for general audiences. It made its mark and is still recognizable to this day. Now, Sausage Party is set to return, with an official release date revealed for the upcoming show.
Meeting the bar of the original
Sausage Party become a hit because of its blending of distinctly adult humor with the animated setting of a supermarket. Crazy occurrences and cursing sausages proved to be a winning formula that had audiences either cackling or shaking their heads in disgust. It was a quintessential Rogen-Goldberg piece.
It seems to have gone from strength to strength since its cinematic run, too. Nowadays, movies don’t have to remain on the big screen, with the best of them often getting spin-offs or adaptations into other mediums – predominantly slot gaming as they’re relatively quick to make.
It’s here, at the online casino betting at Paddy Power, that Sausage Party lives on as a very popular regularly played piece of media. On the list of providers, veteran studio Blueprint Gaming is hailed for its branded casino games, with the Sausage Party slot showcased as being among its top games.
Of course, it’s the original movie, rather than the slot with all of its movie-derived features, that sticks most prominently in the minds of fans. After all, the relatively tiny budget of $19 million was flipped into $141 million worldwide despite Metacritic holding its critic and audience scores at 66/100 and 5.6/10.0, respectively.
Sausage Party slips into streaming this summer
Marking its upcoming return with a poster featuring Frank, Barry, Sammy Bagel Jr., and Brenda holding back an orange with a distinct feature encroaching on them, as has been relayed by Yahoo! News, Sausage Party: Foodtopia will launch on Prime Video on July 11 this year.
Importantly for the appeal of the series, the original core cast is returning. That means Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, and Edward Norton will all be reprising their characters. Joining them is Yassir Lester, Natasha Rothwell, Will Forte, and Sam Richardson in as yet undisclosed roles.
The original adult comedy from eight years ago ends with twist. In the scene, the core characters have their real-world actors revealed to them along with the realization that they are cartoonised creations of these people. The new series, which is still written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, will work as a sequel to the first film and that cliffhanger.
Movie Web has revealed another scene is set to be particularly headline-catching, like the famous climactic scene from the original. One specific scene was screened for Amazon PR people, per Rogen, and Wiig reportedly called a scene after her recording “insane!”
Sausage Party will return on July 11 worldwide via Prime Video with Sausage Party: Foodtopia, bringing with it what’s expected to be a tsunami of crude foods and crazy gags.
