CofC Stages and the College of Charleston’s Department of Theatre and Dance opens its 2026-2027 season with the exciting new play "macbitches" by Sophie McIntosh. The story follows a college theatre friend group whose alliances are put to the test after freshman acting major Hailey is cast as Lady Macbeth.
“The play highlights the mental and physical states of a group of young women at one of the most vulnerable times of their lives. And their willingness to do what it takes to survive within a male-dominant power structure,” remarks Nakeisha Daniel, director of "macbitches" and Assistant Professor of Theatre. “It is so rare that we examine the relationship dynamics of young women, let alone the outside forces that so often influence those relationships.”
Junior theatre major Mollie Mabel Hamm, who plays college senior Rachel, describes the process as “so much fun to rehearse with such ridiculous and ridiculously talented women. Rehearsals have felt like hanging out with good friends: everyone is so supportive of one another and that makes it exciting to keep trying new things.”
The cast features theatre majors Gray Irene Crews, Mollie Mabel Hamm, Grace Ratledge, Maya Tatum and Katherine Vidonic. Theatre majors Emma Bennett, Kaylie Byrne, Ella Charette and Ava Mueller serve as understudies, along with biology major Buffy Kellner.
The design team consists of theatre majors Bailey Beasenburg (costume design), Elizabeth Quinn Mills (lighting design), and Ethan Taylor (properties design). Computing in the arts major Kaede Chikuma provides projection and augmented reality design for the show. Adjunct lecturer Caleb S. Garner serves as sound designer and 2024 alumna Bristol Barnes returns to her alma mater to provide scenic design. The production team includes theatre majors Jaeden Middleton (stage manager), Giovanna Coppola and Jackson Fleming (assistant stage managers).
The 2026-2027 production season is centered around the theme of Footprints – a thought-provoking season that invites audiences to consider the footprints we leave behind. How will they impact those around us, our community and the world? From the high-stakes ambitions of young artists to the timeless reflection of life, the season offers a series of powerful performances that map the boundaries of human experience, exploring the beginnings that define us, the endings that shape us and the lasting legacy we leave in the spaces between.
