Redux Contemporary Art Center will debut two new exhibitions by local artists Annie Rhodes Lee and Anne Abueva on Dec. 5, 2025. The shows will run through Jan. 15, 2026. An opening reception is scheduled for Dec. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m.
In the main gallery, Charleston-raised artist Annie Rhodes Lee will present Land Minds, a solo exhibition featuring mixed media works that blend delicate ceramics with concrete forms and wall-based paintings. Lee, who grew up exploring Lowcountry woods and swamps as part of a generational tree-farming family, draws inspiration from the environment’s layered histories and cultural narratives.
After studying at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts, Lee established a studio in New York City, where the city’s global perspectives began influencing her work. Land Minds explores landscape as both memory and cultural imprint—presenting land as something that grounds us while also reflecting the fragmented resilience of collective culture. Through clay’s shapeshifting qualities, Lee’s pieces move between concrete, cloth, and flesh, interweaving themes of history, mystery, destruction, and adaptation. Lee now works out of her studio on Folly Beach.
In Gallery 1056, resident studio artist Anne Abueva will present Intangible. Abueva, a Chicago native who now lives in Charleston, describes her painting practice as a balance of instinct and intention. Her abstract works emerge through a process of curiosity, emotion, and what she calls “ruthless editing.”
Intangible seeks to give form to fleeting but deeply felt moments—energy, tension, connection, and quiet reflection. The paintings create space for contemplation and imagination, inviting viewers to explore personal narratives alongside their own interpretations of the unseen elements of everyday life.
