Redux Contemporary Art Center announced the opening of three new exhibitions by local artist Riivo Kruuk, Redux Studio Artist Melissa Callaway, and Lightning Resident’s Lauren Ronald and Zach Higgins. An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Riivo Kruuk presents a solo exhibition “Foundations” in the Main Gallery. Bringing together both sides of his artistic practice: large-scale murals and intimate sketches. The exhibition invites viewers to an immersive experience, similar to being immersed in a book. Kruuk is an Estonian-American artist based in Charleston. Since 2020 Kruuk has actively contributed to the city's vibrant art scene. His murals and exhibitions have been showcased both nationally and internationally. He has also participated in group exhibitions like the Piccolo Spoleto Juried Exhibition at City Gallery in Charleston, SC, and the RUA Mural Festival in Estonia. An Artist Talk with be held on Saturday March 28 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
In Gallery 1056, resident studio artist Melissa Callaway presents "The Personification of Plants." This exhibition showcased recent work by the multi-disciplinary artist. Inspired by gardens, Callaway works between intuitive watercolor and ink paintings and creating forms with textiles & paper. Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri she studied Fibers at the Kansas City Art Institute. She obtained an MA in Art Psychotherapy from Roehampton University in London. This will be her first solo exhibition at Redux.
In the Back Gallery, "Light + Sound" will be on view. Lauren Ronald and Zach Higgins debut the work created in the Lightning Residency. Ronald’s oil paintings are inspired from vibration plates, while Higgins’ mixed media assemblages combine neon glasswork, wire sculptures and found objects.
