As the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition returns to downtown Charleston for its 43rd year, so does the highly anticipated “Puppies in the Window” display at men’s retailer M. Dumas & Sons.
Since the outdoor festival began in 1983, M. Dumas & Sons has marked SEWE weekend with its “Puppies in the Window” tradition. In recent years, the retailer has partnered with local animal adoption organizations to bring adoptable puppies to its King Street windows, a highly visible location in one of downtown’s busiest shopping corridors.
This year, M. Dumas & Sons has partnered with Charleston Animal Society, South Carolina’s oldest animal welfare organization, for an in-store adoption drive Friday, Feb. 13, through Sunday, Feb. 15. All proceeds from adoption fees and donations collected during the event will support Charleston Animal Society’s 151-year-old mission of preventing cruelty to animals.
Those interested in adopting can visit the store at 294 King St. to meet the puppies from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
“The puppies in the window have become an M. Dumas & Sons tradition, and we have people calling us every year to ask when the puppies will be back,” said third-generation owner David Dumas. “We love the opportunity to support the efforts of the Charleston Animal Society and to celebrate the return of SEWE weekend by helping these puppies find homes in the community.”
