The beauty, struggles and soul of the Lowcountry will soon shine on the big screen in The Last Sunrise, a new feature film written by acclaimed screenwriter Blu de Golyer. Set in Charleston and across the South Carolina Lowcountry, the project puts the region’s landscapes, culture and community at the center of a powerful, deeply human story.
The Last Sunrise follows Ty Duncan, a Charleston family man, artist and warehouse supervisor whose life with his wife Beverly and infant son is filled with love, laughter and the promise of tomorrow — until tragedy strikes. What unfolds is a poignant story of resilience, healing and the search for light after the darkest night.
“Charleston isn’t just a backdrop for this story — it’s a character in itself,” said writer Blu de Golyer. “The city’s beauty, history and sense of community mirror the themes of the script: strength through storms, and the ability to find warmth and light even after loss.”
The story blends intimate family drama with the Lowcountry’s unique atmosphere, featuring iconic Charleston streets, neighborhoods and landmarks. Critics are already taking notice, awarding The Last Sunrise more than 30 Best Screenplay honors.
Currently in preproduction, the filmmakers are committed to working with local crew, talent and businesses, making this both a cinematic story and a community-driven project.
