In recognition of Banned Books Week, Philosophers & Fools is encouraging Charleston readers to celebrate the freedom to read throughout October with an initiative benefiting the We Are Family Community Center library.
For every banned book purchased at the bookstore during the month, Philosophers & Fools will donate a copy on the customer’s behalf to the We Are Family Community Center library.
The initiative offers readers a way to support access to diverse stories and perspectives while giving back to a local community organization.
According to the American Library Association, 1,671 of the unique titles challenged in 2025 represented the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people and people of color.
