After more than two decades, Pet Helpers is announcing that this year’s 21st Annual Fur Ball Gala on Friday, Oct. 10 at the Hotel Bennett will be the grand finale of its most celebrated fundraising tradition.
While the Fur Ball Gala has raised vital funds for thousands of animals, Pet Helpers has been listening closely to the community about some changes they support.
“Our supporters have told us time and again that while they love the Fur Ball Gala, they also want more opportunities to engage in ways that are family-friendly, casual, and easier to access,” said Melissa Susko, Executive Director. “We also recognize that with financial pressures on families and rising costs across the board, people are looking for new ways to support the causes they care about. We want to meet our community where they are, because our mission has always been about the people and pets who make Charleston so special.”
While the Fur Ball Gala has been a beloved tradition, Pet Helpers says the shift reflect the organization's commitment to being "a good steward of donor support." Pet Helpers said large-scale galas are costly and time-intensive to produce, so by pivoting to a series of community-driven events, Pet Helpers will ensure that more dollars go directly to saving animals while expanding opportunities for supporters to participate.
“Animal welfare donations are often the first to decrease when households feel financial strain,” Susko continued.“By offering fun, accessible fundraising events throughout the year, we can make sure everyone has a way to be part of the solution. After all, we’re all in this together.”
