On March 29, 2026, Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will honor those who served during the Vietnam War in recognition of Vietnam Veterans Day, marking the anniversary of the 1973 withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Vietnam. To show appreciation, all Vietnam veterans and their immediate families will receive free admission to Patriots Point. The Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony and additional activities will be included with general admission for all other visitors.
“Vietnam Veterans Day is an opportunity to recognize the courage and sacrifice of those who served during a defining period in our nation’s history,” said Allison Hunt, Executive Director. “We are honored to welcome these veterans and their families to Patriots Point as we reflect on their service and ensure their stories continue to be remembered.”
A Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. inside the Vietnam Experience. Speakers include Dr. Bruce T. “Woody” Caine, retired U.S. Army Infantry officer; Doug Geganto, prior U.S. Army combat medic; and Arlene Southerland, retired U.S. Navy nurse.
In addition to the ceremony, Patriots Point has partnered with University of South Carolina Libraries to present a special selection of Vietnam War footage from the United States Marine Corps film archive. Screenings will take place in the Smokey Stover Theater aboard the USS Yorktown beginning at 1:00 p.m., with additional showings throughout the afternoon.
