The City of North Charleston’s Cultural Arts Department is pleased to announce that a group exhibition featuring textile works by the Upcountry Fiber Artists will be on display at Park Circle Gallery from January 7-31, 2026. The group members, Evelyn Beck, Lynne Harrill, Sara Quattlebaum, Cynthia Steward, Denny Webster, and Kathryn Weston, will host a free public reception at the gallery on Friday, January 9, from 5-7pm.
This exhibition, titled Tomato of Time, began as a group challenge to practice the Pomodoro Technique. Developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980’s, the technique involves working in 25-minute intervals with five minutes of rest. Cirillo used a “pomodoro” timer. Pomodaro translates to “tomato” in English. While practicing this technique the artists discovered one another’s unique approach to the concepts of time, reflecting their diverse styles of art. This was the starting point for artistic reflections on the meaning of time. From interpretations of the tomato-shaped timer itself, to nostalgic looks back to the past, to representations of how clocks rule our lives, the Upcountry Fiber Artists delved into examinations of the past, the present, and the future, when creating works for this group exhibition.
The Upcountry Fiber Artists have been exhibiting their work throughout the Carolinas and Georgia since 2020. While their work is united by the use of fabric, each artist brings a unique perspective and style to their creations. Learn more about the group at www.TheUpcountryFibera.
